Summary: There are nine realms of Asgard and once every 5,000 years they align. Earth happens to be one of these realms. These realms create portals between the worlds during the alignment which is called "Convergence". On Earth, in London, Jane Foster believes she and her crew have discovered one such portal. Foster, while investigating the phenomenon, is transported to another realm and comes in contact with a substance called Aether. Upon coming into contact with the substance, it draws Thor from Asgard back to Earth. Thor takes Jane to Asgard to be cured from the Aether. Unfortunately in doing so it draws more than just Jane to the world. Another being called Malekith wants to use the Aether to destroy Asgard. Devising a plan with his brother - the war criminal Loki, Thor heads to "The Dark World" to destroy the Aether and save Asgard. But can Loki be trusted?

You will like this film if: You are a fan of superhero films, love Thor and Loki, will like it even more if you live in the UK (because mostly set there), fan of Marvel.

You will not like this film if: You hate superhero films, if Thor is your least favourite Avenger.

The Summary

Obviously we will begin with Thor aka Chris Hemsworth. What is there to say here, you know that he is a very good choice for Thor and this film just solidifies that fact even more. His look, build and demeanour is just perfect for Thor and I can't imagine who else would work for this role. He adds that sense of humour to Thor's character, yet serious when ready to battle and defend his people and kingdom. Now, Natalie Portman as Thor's love interest, Jane Foster. I hardly like when superhero films focus on love over action, which is mostly the case with Marvel, and this film didn't really change my mind. Some of the time, when Thor and Jane were together I zoned out, I just didn't care much for her - like it was her fault this whole mess started, due to her stumbling across the Aether that has been hidden for years for a reason. Natalie Portman is good at acting, and she is also good in this film, but I just didn't care for her character or her and Thor's love. The biggest surprise for me was Loki portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. In the first Thor, I just didn't really like him - he didn't really do much for me. In TDW (effort to keep typing this) I loved Loki. He was just the definition of sass. Everything he did was amazing, some parts were unexpected and his 'death' was sad to see, even though he is the villain. He was my favourite character out of this film.

My opinion of Thor: The Dark World is better than average. In terms of the Avengers and all those films that have came out under this branding, I do think it's near the top, but in my eyes, I just didn't connect with the film. It had good CGI, great actors but I feel the storyline just seemed overused and just slightly boring. I love Marvel and superhero films, but Thor is my third favourite Avenger now (used to be second before this film) behind Iron Man and Hulk and Captain America being last. Theres not much else to say about this film, it was good, but nothing amazing or never been done before.

I would suggest you go and see Thor: The Dark World though, as it is the second stage of Marvel's huge plan and it is a decent superhero flick, but I'd say that with offerings like Superman from DC, it just wasn't enough for me.
