He is separated from his beloved sister and his terrifying brother and brought to battle school in orbit around earth. He will be tested and honed into an empathetic killer who begins to despise what he does as he learns to fight in hopes of saving Earth and his family.
You will like this film if: You enjoy a good sci-fi flick, fan of the book series by Orson Scott Card, fan of Harrison Ford.
You will not like this film if: You won't like films about aliens and space, dislike young actors taking the lead, hate CGI.The ReviewEnder's Game doesn't fall short where the actors are concerned. Starting with the biggest for this film, that being Harrison Ford - returning to space! This film uses his previous film (being one of the biggest franchises STAR WARS) to advertise. I normally don't agree with stuff like this, but Ford is such a great actor in this film, playing the false hero and he is just great at playing the stern, emotionless, one-who-knows-best type of guy. Harrison Ford was the perfect choice in this role, and glad the didn't just base it on his star power. Now, moving onto the next main character, whom this film is about, Ender Wiggin aka Asa Butterfield. Prior to this film, I was unaware of Butterfield (sorry!!!) but after seeing his performance, I imagine he will go far. He is exceptional at playing the hero, the one innocent little boy who has been selected to save the world even though he didn't particularly want all of it. Asa Butterfield captures the audiences hearts, and it was very nice to see his journey onto saviour of Earth and overcoming obstacles on his way. The whole cast were great, with mentions going out to Ben Kingsley as Mazer Rackham (the old commander before Ender Wiggin) Moises Arias (Rico from Hannah Montana) as Bonzo, the leader of a training team, where the children of Earth train before taking charge of the fleet against the Formics and many other great actors, that I would mention but don't want to go on.
Now, moving onto my personal opinion. Before seeing this film, I didn't read the books or storyline. I wanted to go in for a surprise, which is exactly what I did for Hunger Games (2012). I was hoping to get the same feeling and excitement I got from Hunger Games, due to not reading the books or storyline for this either, and needless to say, that is exactly what I got. I loved Ender's Game. The film is a good sci-fi film, the storyline was just so griping and I enjoyed every moment. The whole idea of using children to train to fight aliens is just so riveting, and fresh. The acting was great, the storyline was amazing and very tense and the twist at the end, oh my god, I just didn't see it coming.
This film was so good that I went out and purchased the book, which I'm currently reading, and I even went and saw the film for a second time. I would definitely recommend you go see this film, and if failing that, do buy it on DVD!
