The review
This B-movie film has quite a few A-list actors. To prove this, it has Danny Trejo (obviously), Jessica Alba as Sartana, Mel Gibson as Voz, Lady GaGa as La Camaleon, Sofia Vergara as Desdemona, Charlie Sheen as the President of the United States (he even says "winning" in the film). The film even has an appearance from High School Musical gone Spring Breakers Vanessa Hudgens - and so many more its hard to list them all. Since most characters die within a few minutes of appearing, the film has so many different actors that you will recognise and be stunned to see them. This makes the film that ever so more entertaining, seeing all these stars come together and work on such a ridiculous film that is so over the top it hurts. The roles they are given even give you a clue into what the films intentions are, having Charlie Sheen as the President, Sofia Vergara as an owner of a brothel, Mel Gibson as some evil genius who wants to destroy the world - even having Spy Kids leading star Alexa Vega as Killjoy, one of the prostitute/hit-women for Desdemona.
Machete Kills is a great shitty film. If you can recognise how bad it is meant to be, you will definitely enjoy it. This film is receiving a lot of negative reviews, and I feel those people are reviewing it as a serious film. This is far from a serious film. You can even tell by the way they use green screen where not necessary, and make it so obvious they have done this, the extreme over the top deaths, such as getting sucked into a helicopter blade that is flying by and even the dialogue, such as "Machete don't tweet" - its just so irrelevant but that makes it so much better. If you can look past the fact that its not a serious film, which you should do as it is by Robert Rodriguez, you will be able to enjoy it - and even if you can't do so (which I don't understand) you will still laugh at some of the gags they do.
So, to end this review, I recommend you ignore the negative reviews for now, go and see the film and make your own opinion of it. It's one of the films were you either hate it or like it, and I do think most people will like it. It's worth noting this is a sequel, the first film in the franchise is Machete (2010) and they are making a third film, Machete Kills Again... In Space which is in development. As you can tell, the third will be even more ridiculous (they even show you a preview in Machete Kills). Go see Machete Kills!
